Causes of Female Infertility
Infertility“The situation where pregnancy does not occur despite having unprotected sexual intercourse during 12 ovulation periods is called infertility or infertility. Infertility can be of female or male origin. For this reason, it is important to investigate couples who cannot have children simultaneously.”
There are many different factors that can cause infertility in women. The causes of infertility in women may not be diagnosed from time to time. Unexplained infertility is often incurable.
In order for pregnancy to occur in women, there must be no problem during the ovulation process, the sperm quality of the man must be sufficient for the formation of pregnancy, unprotected sexual intercourse during the ovulation period, and the fallopian tubes and the uterus must be anatomically suitable. Any disruption that may occur in these processes can prevent the start of the pregnancy process.
Ovulation Disorders
Ovulation disorders are the most common cause of female infertility. If ovulation does not occur, fertilization cannot occur. There is no single factor that causes ovulation disorders.
- Polycystic Ovary Syndrome: It causes menstrual irregularity. This health problem, which disrupts the hormonal balance, can be accompanied by facial and body hair and obesity.
- Hypothalamic Dysfunction: Irregularity of FSH and LH hormone secretions due to factors such as excessive or underweight, excessive physical or psychological stress may cause disturbances in the menstrual and ovulation cycle.
The causes of ovulation disorders are not limited to these. Premature ovarian failure and excess prolactin can also cause ovulation disorders.
Damage to the Fallopian Tubes
Damage to the fallopian tubes is among the causes of female infertility. The formation of intra-abdominal adhesions after operations in the abdominal or pelvic region in the past, infection in the fallopian tubes, and sexually transmitted diseases may cause obstruction or damage to the fallopian tubes and trigger infertility in women.
Endometriosis (Chocolate Cyst)
Endometriosis is one of the causes of female infertility, which makes its effects felt with different symptoms such as extremely painful menstrual periods, pain during or after sexual intercourse, irregularity in the menstrual cycle. This disorder, which is characterized by the development of the tissue lining the intrauterine region outside the uterus, can also be seen on the uterus surface, ovaries or tubes.
Cervical Problems
Inflammation of the cervix can make it difficult for the sperm to pass through the region, kill the sperm and prevent them from combining with the egg, causing female infertility.
Age
Unlike men, women do not produce new eggs throughout their life cycle. As age progresses, both the number and quality of eggs decrease. In such a case, although pregnancy occurs, it may result in miscarriage.
